Entrance Mats

January 27th, 2008 · No Comments

The use of entrance mats can greatly minimize maintenance.  Cleaning costs can really get high in hospitals, offices, theaters, restaurants, etc., when dirt and grime is tracked in on shoews.  It’s estimated that even in good weather, one square yard of carpet can accumulate a pound of dirt a week in high traffic areas–even more in inclement weather when slush, snow, and mud are being tracked in. The cost to remove a single pound of dirt has been estimated at around $600.  Entrance mats and walk off mats in high traffic areas can prevent this dirt from getting on carpeting or tracked further in the building, and it’s much easier to have your mat cleaned than to bring in a dedicated cleaning crew to your site.

Anti Fatigue Ergonomics

January 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

Here are a few things to consider when addressing anti fatigue solutions in the workplace:

Positional changes can give workers a chance to relieve tired feet or aching muscles while still being productive.  A chair or stool can also go a long way towards relieving worker discomfort, though not all types of work permit this.

The correct footwear can help to reduce the harmful effects of prolonged standing.  Shoes should provide adequate arch and heel support as well as comfort.  Gel or cushion inserts can be added to most shoes or work boots and can increase foot comfort considerable.

Anti fatigue mats can also be extremely helpful in reducing employee fatigue in situtations where the worker stands all day long.  We have mats that are suitable for upscale offices, industrial applications, as well as kitchen or environments or where mats may come into contact with grease or oil.

When should an anti-fatigue mat be used?

November 15th, 2007 · No Comments

Anti-fatigue mats can be used anywhere that a resilient flooring surface is practical for worker comfort and does not pose a safety threat. For example, a mat may not be practical where rolling carts are heavily utilized, where sharp-edged surfaces or implements may contact the flooring surface, or anywhere that stability is an issue. Care needs to be taken when placing matting so that it does not become a tripping hazard. Some designs such as the Andersen Happy Feet mat are available with highly-visible safety strips on the edges to improve worker safety.

Who Can Benefit From Anti-Fatigue Matting?

October 31st, 2007 · No Comments

Workers on manufacturing assembly lines such as in the auto industry or food processing plants can benefit from anti-fatigue matting.  Kitchen workers in restaurants stand for extended periods of time, as do bank tellers and sales associates in departments stores.  Each of these environments calls for a slightly different type of mat.  For example, in a kitchen, an anti-fatigue mat has to also be a grease-proof mat; in a locker room, the mat should be drainable; and in a bank, a plush, upscale appearance is a must.  Basically anyone who stands in one position for a long time or walks the same area constantly can benefit from an anti-fatigue mat, so long as it does not pose a safety threat.

Benefits of Anti Fatigue Mats

October 28th, 2007 · No Comments

Standing for a long time in one place has been scientifically proven to be very tiring.  Sore feet, sore joints, and general discomfort and tiredness can all the result of standing in one place for too long.  Hard flooring surfaces, inadequate footwear, and the type of work being performed can all contribute to worker fatigue.  A high-quality mat, though not a total solution, can go a long way towards relieving worker fatigue.

Anti-fatigue mats can also absorb the shock due to walking.  Linkable anti-fatigue mat sections are a good choice when long strips of anti-fatigue matting is required, as custom lengths can be created and they are easy to dissemble for cleaning or replacement of individual sections.

A side benefit of most anti-fatigue matting is that it can also offer a slip resistant surface.  When a slip-resistant surface is a must-have feature, you should check manufacturer’s specifications and see if their products are certified slip-resistant by the National Floor Safety Institute.

Anti Fatigue Mat Construction

October 25th, 2007 · No Comments

Anti-fatigue mats are most often made of rubber.  Nitrile rubber is especially popular in manufacturing and industrial environments because it is more resistant than regular rubber to acids and oils, making these mats  ideal for use in machine shops, work stations, warehouse packaging stations, heavy industrial applications, kitchens, locker rooms, etc.  Decorative designs such as the Andersen Hog Heaven Plush utilize a static-dissipative nylon or polypropylene top surface and a dense rubber closed-cell cushion enclosed in a solid nitrile rubber backing.  These are suitable for use in office, banks, and retail environments where attractive appearance is just as important as good anti-fatigue performance.

Anti-Fatigue Mats

October 24th, 2007 · No Comments

Anti-fatigue mats are any type of underfoot matting designed to reduce fatigue caused by standing or walking for long periods of time on hard surfaces.  Heavy industrial and manufacturing environments generally have concrete floors, and the flooring in retail stores are usually just vinyl tile laid over a concrete slab.  Standing for extended periods of time on surfaces such as these can be tiring on the feet, knees and joints.  Anti-fatigue mats provide a softer, more resilient surface, helping to alleviate tiredness and soreness.
